~ What's new at Fruits of Whitsunday ~Welcome to the ~ What's new at Fruits of Whitsunday ~ page, this page is designed to keep our consumers up to date with the latest Passionfruit developments. July 2008 The main goal Fruits of Whitsunday strives for is quality. And over the years we have found that younger Passionfruit vines grow larger and more productive Passionfruit. Our high vine, refresh, replant rate is our commitment to the quality of our Passionfruit. October 2007 With our new Passionfruit season just coming back online, lets take a look at something Fruits of Whitsunday will be watching with interest in the future. Could this be the future of Passionfruit picking? September 2007 With the wonder of satellite photo's we have this month shown you the set up of Fruits of Whitsunday. Each vineyard has been set up and named A to J and each row numbered for each vineyard block. This helps us keep track of the vines health, numbers and quality control. June 2007 Winter set in quickly in June with very cool nights and nice mild days. Frosts are not a problem at Fruits of Whitsunday, as the surrounding Gregory river and Dryander creek act as natural heat sinks. On cool nights the river and creek's warmth evaporates as steam and protects our surrounding Passionfruit vines from the effects of possible frosts, and it's all completely natural! April 2007 Continuing on from from last month people have been asking how we set out our fruit fly control system. Our Fruit fly traps are serviced 1-2 times a month depending on fruit fly numbers and weather patterns. The traps are strategically placed around the outside of our vine trellising blocks, so that the fruit flies have to at least fly past our fruit fly traps to reach the Passionfruit. Over time we move the traps around closing the spacing between traps of 'fruit fly entrance areas; generally around the vineyards closer to the rainforest, making our trap 'shielding' stronger in areas of attack. This is all a small part of our fruit fly control system. March 2007 At the end of the wet season fruit fly numbers emerge, but we were ready for them, strategically placed fruit fly traps containing Wild May fruit fly control solution around out vineyard has shielded and protected our Passionfruit for you. February 2007 Our largest sized Passionfruit record has been broken! The record was 230 grams and is now 257 grams! (9 ounces) with a diameter of 115 millimetres (4.5 inches) long. But sorry though, this passionfruit was not sent to market, it has been seeded and integrated into breeding program. This summer has also been our wettest summer since Fruits of Whitsunday was established, the ground is well and truly SOAKED! November 2006 In November Fruits of Whitsunday changed it's 1 Litre Passionfruit pulp containers to more durable and user friendly 1 Litre clip-seal bags. October 2006 It's that time of year again where there's lots of green Passionfruit growing and expanding and should be ripe just in time for those upcoming Christmas Pavlova's! September 2006 Advances are being made for replacing and replenishing our vines, so much so that approximately 90% of our vines are now under 1 year old, and we're still going! August 2006 Our Pulping machine has arrived! ...And it works very well... Our through-put of Passionfruit for pulping has gone from about 1 Passionfruit every 20 seconds to around 1 Passionfruit a second! That's a lot more Passionfruit being able to be processed in a shorter time. Rather than time being an issue, the shortfall in quantity of 2nd grade Passionfruit for pulping will be; But that will be less of an issue as the Passionfruit production in vineyard is still growing in size. July 2006 Fruits of Whitsunday was featured in the Australian Financial review Newspaper as well as featuring in predominant Country newspapers. Vineyard G has been removed and replaced with a steady flow of Panama Passionfruit being sent to all corners of the Australia! (New South Wales, Western Australia, to name a few) February 2006 February was another mile stone for Fruits of Whitsunday, with our first ever shipment of our Passionfruit direct to the Western Australia Market. Bullfrog International is our agent for Western Australia. You'll be able to find their contact details on our Agents page. Also in February Fruits of Whitsunday has been awarded a grant to manufacture our new Passionfruit pulping machine. This machine will help us process more passionfruit pulp out from our 2nd grade Passionfruit more efficiently. With the announcement of this grant Fruits of Whitsunday has been featured in the media, on radio, the Proserpine Guardian Newspaper, Queensland Country Life Newspaper, The Whitsunday Times, and featured on the Channel Seven local news. November 2005 Work has been continuing on in November. Construction of vineyard 'I' is now complete and mulching of all blocks are also complete, planting is continuing as well as our third expansion of our Packing shed. October 2005 October was the month we had our very first pickers 'Christmas party'. We thought it was a good way to reward our valued pickers for their continued consistent efforts over the year, so to finish off on their final harvest for this season, we threw them a the party as a way to say thanks. We hope to see them all again at the start of the next season starting soon. Also, construction of new vineyard "J" is now complete, planting and mulching is now underway. Construction of Vineyard "I" is continuing. September 2005 Early September our new cold room construction and wiring was completed, and it is now cooling and locking in the freshness of ever single one of our Passionfruit! September was also the month we sent our first fresh export. If you would like to import our Passionfruit also, then please contact us . August 2005 August has been another very busy month. To increase packing efficiency we've updated the display cards to strips of 5 perforated cards, but more importantly we've added a new higher resolution photo in place of the old one, and added a heap of new different Passionfruit recipes! Late August our new cold room has arrived and is now under construction. The new cold room will help providing higher quality and fresher Passionfruit for our consumers. July 2005 July has been an extremely busy time at Fruits of Whitsunday, not only have we released our latest black tray range (see products page) We have also been featured "Enterprise of the month" in Good Fruit and Vegetables Magazine! Plus we have won "Champion fruit of show" winning over all other fruits at Show Whitsunday... For the second time!
