Below is a random sample test of Passionfruit taken at the Sydney Markets recently.

These samples were taken as accurately and fairly as possible from a number of boxes on sale at the wholesale stand, the samples were also weighed on accurate electronic scales.

You will find the following results interesting.

200 in a box (Purple/black variety)
Weight of each fruit each    30 grams
Skin weight without pulp each    20 grams
Net pulp weight each    10 grams
Therefore total weight of pulp per box is 2 kilograms
Price per box at the market was $15.00
Therefore the purchaser was paying per kilogram $7.50

160 in a box (Purple/black variety)
Weight of each fruit each    35 grams
Skin weight without pulp each    25 grams
Net pulp weight each    10 grams
Therefore total weight of pulp per box is 1.6 kilograms
Price per box at the market was $20.00
Therefore the purchaser was paying per kilogram $12.50

90 in a box (Purple/black variety)
Weight of each fruit each    45 grams
Skin weight without pulp each    30 grams
Net pulp weight each    15 grams
Therefore total weight of pulp per box is 1.35 kilograms
Price per box at the market was $30.00
Therefore the purchaser was paying per kilogram $22.22

60 in a box (Panama variety)
Weight of each fruit each    120 grams
Skin weight without pulp each    55 grams
Net pulp weight each    65 grams
Therefore total weight of pulp per box is 3.9 kilograms
Price per box at the market was $25.00
Therefore the purchaser was paying per kilogram $6.40

20 in a tray (Panama variety)
Weight of each fruit each    180 grams
Skin weight without pulp each    90 grams
Net pulp weight each    90 grams
Therefore total weight of pulp per box is 1.8 kilograms
Price per box at the market was $15.00
Therefore the purchaser was paying per kilogram $8.33

Simply put, a tray of 20 Panama yields more pulp and costs half the price of a 90 in a box.
